Mochary Foundation has partnered with the Friends of Island Academy to mentor youth who have previously been incarcerated at Rikers Island. One at a time, Matt Mochary mentors the kids recommended to him by FOIA. The goal is to have each mentee get and keep a job. The mentoring program began on January 14th, 2008. Three weeks later, Kendrick, the first mentee, got a full-time job.

Mochary Foundation partners with the Center for Talented Youth to provide a class on “How to Make Money” to CTYers from New York City who are on scholarship. Matt Mochary teaches the class from 5 to 8pm, every other Tuesday, at the Mochary Group offices.

Final cut of The Gloves is completed. The film will now be entered in film festivals in anticipation of an upcoming theatrical release.

Mochary Films completes cinematography on its next project, The Gloves, a feature-length non-fiction film that follows the 2006 heavyweight Golden Gloves boxing championship.

Favela Rising concludes a 33-city nationwide theatrical release. The film is now available for rent on Netflix.

ThinkFilms is preparing to release Favela Rising in New York and other major US metro areas starting Friday, June 2. Check the website for further details.

Favela Rising begins its US Favela Tour, providing free screenings of the film in the underserved communities of the United States, where the film’s message finds its most important home. The US Favela Tour brings together audiences of at-risk youth, grass-roots community organizers and local philanthropists, creating the fertile ground from which social change can begin.
